It was a moody spring day with soft turns, some thick fog, and many moments of sunshine. I was happy to make the mellow drive north through Salt Lake City to Snowbasin, Utah, for a nice spring skiing day. With the temps warming up this time of year, the mountain has shifted lift hours to 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. through closing day on Sunday, April 28.
I was very stoked about the convenience of the entire skier experience on this ski day. I saw a dirt lot to pull into on my way to the mountain that happened to be at the top of a beginnerโs ski run. From this small lot, I could ski down to the main base area to pick up my lift pass. It also allowed for one of my very favorite things on any ski day: skiing back to the car! In addition to that, they have some bathrooms that are easily accessible from outside right near the main gondola. Can we please normalize easy access bathrooms at ski areas?? Why does it always have to be such a long journey to find the closest bathrooms?
Anyways, back to the skiing. It was your typical spring day. I missed the early 8am lift opening today but by the time I was skiing around 9am, the south facing slopes were already softening up nicely. By 11am, there were soft, dreamy corn groomers turns on most of DeMoisy.
By lunch, the temps continued to increase and the snow was getting a bit more heavy than I would have liked. Itโs definitely getting to that point in the year when you want to think about some self preservation. I decided to call it early and rest the legs for the the last few weeks of amazing spring turns.
