I’m not gonna lie, it’s not pretty out there people. Conditions in Tahoe are well, bad, meager, dry, not optimal, really just place any negative adjective here and it most likely applies. However, it’s what we got, and we have to make the best of it.
While the conditions are not ideal per se, the skiing is still a lot of fun believe it or not. The holiday crowd was out in full force today, and from the looks of it, most everybody was having fun. However I must say I was disappointed in the amount of Santa’s out, or lack thereof. Even with the limited terrain at Squaw, and the limited amount of Santa’s today, the runs were not overrun, and there were still solo turns to be found with the hike to Siberia open.
The lack of snow has gotten us all a little bit depressed, its still good out there, and skiing is a lot better than not skiing.
Today at Squaw we saw Squaw Creek, Red Dog, Exhibition, the Funi, and Gold Coast open, as well as the hike to Siberia. Shirley Lake is expected to open tomorrow for the Holiday week, conditions permitting.
Not a whole lot is open, however patrol is working extra hard to open what they can given the low tide snow conditions, and opening the hike to Siberia was a huge win for Squaw. The long term forecast is not looking good either, nothing until January, but hey, make the best of it, I had great day myself. ย So while conditions are not ideal, and the skiing is well, subpar, it is still fun nonetheless, and lets be honest here, skiing horrible conditions is better than sitting at home doing nothing, right?
