Going into Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend last year, Squaw was in the middle of its best January for 35-years, having gotten 15 FEET of snow since the turn of the year. The snow total at 8,000 feet was 281″.
This year, at the same elevation, there was just 80″, a huge -200″ difference on last year.
But despite this skiers and riders still turned out in their thousands this year, to enjoy the 25% open terrain available.
Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows representatives said that they continue to bring in thousands of people every day, although declined to give exact numbers.
The upcoming forecast is good though, the resort is optimistic that a couple of storms predicted for the next week or so could dump multiple feet of fresh snow, giving them the opportunity to open more terrain and welcome even more visitors.
