Today started out mellow at Squaw Valley, CA. ย Cruiserย laps on Shirley, fun powdery variations off the Mountain Run, mogul leg training on Far East.
Then, patrol told us they were gearing up for a Siberia opening…
Not the chair, just the hike.
Kangaroo Kicker was in and Cool Guy Rock was hit-able.
They dropped the rope at about 2:15pm.
We all skied pow and hooted and hollered and Jason Dobbs made perfect turns, as per usual, but not Sean Carey.
Sean sent Cool Guy Rock and threw a big ‘ole backflip off the Kangroo Kicker…
That fired me up. ย Sean and I went back up and I followed him for another round of Cool Guy and Kangaroo backies.
I was screaming… ย
We tried to talk ourselves into going home but we couldn’t.
We did one more Cool Guy to Kangaroo Backy at 3:30pm and busted out the cameras.
My favorite day at Squaw so far this year.
Tomorrow Squaw Alpine will open Summit and Solitude! ย Summit will make for another powder day tomorrow…
“Summit Six, Solitude and Belmont on the schedule tomorrow.” – Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, today
So… after seeing all these posts, it came to my mind… where do people actually learn to snowboard/ski/skate/surf anyways? I mean every one of those dudes with the rad stunts start somewhere don’t they?
…every rock, tree, berm, bump has a rad name at Squaw
They do that every year. Sorry Squaw. If you don’t get to ski it don’t count it.
Squaw reports 62″ at 8200′ this season, but the first 14″ fell on or before Nov. 1 and most likely melted during warm Fall before snow started falling again on Nov. 17 . See http://squawalpine.com/skiing-riding/weather-conditions-webcams/squaw-valley-snowfall-tracker for details. Not a big deal, but trying to keep them honest.
