Squaw Valley ski resort in Lake Tahoe, CA opened last week on November 26th, 2014. Theyโve had the Gold Coast chair open and nothing else and itโs been fun. Squaw has gotten 33โณ of snow in their first week on the upper mountain with 21โณ of those inches falling on Tuesday and Wednesday. It was nuking at Squaw at times today and it felt a helluva lot like winter up there. Snow levels have been hovering 7,500-feet the past three weeks.
We had some fun up on Gold Coast today. The new snow covered many of the rocks and logs that are laying around and made the off-piste coverage much more legit. The available terrain is all intermediate but it still damn fun to cruise around in, hit little jumps in, tap a tree or two in, and grab some creamy powder turns in. Itโs been wet out there the past few days, but weโve been stoked to be getting some precipitation no matter itโs physical form.
Ski patrol was very generous and gave us a wide berth today allowing us to ski most of the off-piste terrain on Gold Coast.
On Saturday, Squaw will be opening the Siberia, Emigrant, and Shirley Lake chairs which will more than triple the skiable acres and make things damn fun. Kangaroo Kicker on Siberia will be going off.
