Squaw’s closing weekend left a good taste in our mouths.ย It left a great taste.
Articulating how challenging this low snow season was here at Squaw might have to be left to someone else.ย
What I can express is how great the final weekend at Squaw was. ย A simple equation came together that we all know and love and may have forgotten:
good terrain + good snow = good experience.
7″ of new snow Thursday night lead to 10 more inches on Friday which lead to a bluebird powder day at Squaw on Saturday which stayed cold enough to allow Sunday, Squaw Valley USA’s final day of operation for the 2013/14 winter season, to be worthy of remembering. ย A small amount of fresh snow overnight on Saturday night freshened up Mainline Pocket, the Palisades, and Granite Chief Peak.
Squaw patrol continued their legendary service on Sunday, allowing the public up onto the freshened up Palisades at 2:30pm. ย Locals scrambled up the ‘sades and gave it a whack. ย The Tube, Extra Chute, and National were the favorites. ย Andy Hays sent the air Fox sent yesterday and rode out strong. ย A kid threw one of the biggest if not the biggest air of the year on Mainline today… ย I still don’t quite understand how it worked.
For the last run of the season we hiked up KT and skied Enchanted Forest and Olympic Lady Bowl in 16″ of hot powder perfection. ย It was the right way to end the season. ย It was a spectacular way to end a ‘bad‘ season. ย It left a great taste in our mouths.
