Report from Friday, January 22nd, 2016
Our usual North Lake Tahoe ski areas were crippled by wind on Friday, so we went and looked for some alternatives. Sugar Bowl Resort did not disappoint with pretty much all lifts running (with the exception of Summit). While the snow off piste was quite heavy and punchy, all of the groomed runs were getting covered in the fresh, soft snow and were really fun to ski on. Some of the ‘groomed’ runs felt like actual pow turns. Also, some of the off-piste skiing at the top of Lincoln and Disney chairs were nice and powdery. Lower down, it was full on Sierra Cement that really helped with the definition in my legs. Can’t wait for bikini season.
All in all, it was a really fun day at Sugar Bowl and a great place to come on those windy days when the other guys can’t get lifts open!
Oh, and Sugar Bowl has gotten 337″ of snowfall this year.ย The most in California and the 3rd Most in North America…
I am an avid reader of your website. I love skiing in the winter and road and mtn biking in the off season here in Salt Lake City, UT. February 1st will be my 30 year anniversary of when I first set my foot in Utah soil. I was fortunate enough to be employed at the Airie atop of the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird when they expanded the facility in the fall of 86′. I am 52 with a 8 year boy who is inspiring me to stay fit and young because I want to be able to play and keep up with him in his teens.
