High tide spring skiing at Sugar Bowl, California, there’s nothing like it. We started our day with coffee by the river while we let things thaw out, then headed up the pass to get the day started. After a few scouting laps we found some fun stuff on the east facing terrain off of the Disney chairlift. The stoke was high. It could only get better from here.
We headed over to the Summit chair and hiked along the ridge with beautiful views of Donner Lake below us. Dropping in to Century Club, we found some buttery snow almost ready for harvest. We had to do another lap. The second time through the hike was just as easy and the lake just as pretty, but the snow was exceptional. The slarvey was ready for us. Long beautiful turns with exquisite views of Castle Peak deposited us into some fun slushy trees.
After a quick snack and some more time for the sun to work its magic, it was time to head over to the Mt. Lincoln Chairlift. Right underneath the lift line is a set of four chutes called The Sisters, which was our intended destination. By this point in the day, they were filled with more awesome spring snow, perfect for laying down some deep tele turns next to the rocks.ย We spent a good hour skiing the steeps in the Sisters and Silver Belt before our legs really started to let us know it was time to think about heading toward aprรจs.
We ended the day with a sunny run down Nancy’s Couloir on our way to take in some more of the band playing at the Judah Lodge. A truly memorable day at Sugar Bowl with awesome snow and an awesome crew. Can’t wait until next time. Thanks Sugar Bowl!
