Temple Basin Ski Area in New Zealand has made the sad decision to close for the season on Thursday, September 5. The club ski area made the announcement on its social media channels on Wednesday, September 4.
Temple Basin is one of the oldest club-run ski areas in New Zealand, formed in 1929. The surrounding peaks can be easily accessed from the three surface lifts. The ski field has become renowned as the home of extreme skiing and snowboarding in New Zealand. Located on the Main Divide of the Southern Alps, Temple is also home to the New Zealand Snow Safety Institute offering courses for riders, hikers and mountaineers in premier alpine terrain.
Craigieburn Valley Ski Area also announced this week that this week will be the last week of skiing at this club resort. Australia and New Zealand have been experiencing above average temperatures and strong winds, eroding the snow cover within days, and ending the ski season in many resorts abruptly. In Australia, three out of the four major ski resorts in the state of Victoria have closed for the season.
