A fire has left the main lodge at Mont Edouard, Quรฉbec in ruins. The fire broke out on the afternoon of ย Friday, May 31.
According to the ski resort’s Facebook page, no one was injured. ย At the time the cause of the fire remains unknown, but the resort is working together with authorities to investigate the cause of the break-out. The Firefighters called to the scene were unable to save the building as it was deemed to be too dangerous to go inside.
As officials have told Radio Canada,ย the garage was not affected by the fire and the lifts are still operational.
Unfortunately, the fire happened after the resort had to declare bankruptcy almost a year ago. At the time the mountain was saved by the organization Les Amis du Mont-รdouard, which raised over two million Canadian dollars to build the resort back up again. Marc-Andre Busque, the general manager, of the ski area still remains hopeful and told Radio Canada, “(…) the number one objective is to have a mountain that continues to be a community, that continues to be a showcase for the entire (…) region.”
Mont Edouard is 2,099 feet high and the fifth-highest peak in Quebec. The recreation area offers a vertical drop of 1476 feet and 30 different slopes and is slated to begin summer operations on June 21.
