So it turns out that there actually is a Snow God. After the dreadful day we had yesterday that included monsoon rains, pond skiing on Friday Flat, and all lifts going on lightning hold, I was seriously beginning to have doubts. The Man delivered today with 30 cm (that’s just shy of 12″ for you Americans) of new snow overnight, which gave us a super fun day of skiing and riding. The wind was howling at the peaks, which provided plenty of nice wind blown refills to play in.
With Cruiser chair on wind hold all afternoon yesterday, we gunned it straight for that zone as soon as the lifts opened. Matteo and I were lucky enough to get the first run of the day down Boundary Riders and got a few laps in before having to report for ‘work’.
On the other side of the resort, The Bluff, World Cup and Supertrail were all filled with nice wind packed powder up top, which provided plenty of grip to slash turns in without being afraid of skidding out. Further down below, the snow was nice and soft and made me wish I was in a fatter ski. The hardworking ski patrollers were doing a great job trying to keep everyone safe, but some skiers seemed to know better.
I was told that Anton’s, High Noon and The Basin were all skiing very well today as well and with more snow on the way, we could end up with a nice wintery week! You better believe I’ll be saying my prayers tonight.
Here’s the official conditions video from Thredbo:
30cms helped a ton!
Looks very different there. Love those trees. Deciduous evergreens?
I believe they are Australian gum trees
