Today started with a short trail run from our Club Med hotel to Tignes Le Lac. We rounded the lake and returned for a nice but cold 5K. Our resort has everything we need (including treadmills, but ‘no thank you!’), so finding an excuse to get out and see the town was nice.
We went straight in for the all-inclusive hot breakfast before heading to our room to get dressed for skiing.
The day was sunny, with no clouds in the sky. But it was cold. It was around 14ºF at the base and surely colder higher up.
The conditions were the same as day one: firm underfoot, yesterday’s fresh snow all but skied off, but not icy or too hard-packed, so it was still super fun.
We tried to venture even further into Val d’Isere, but the face from the top of the Rocher de Bellevarde that leads down to the main town was not yet open. The only option would be to download the Olympique gondola.
Instead, we skied the Borsat and the Fontaine Froide a few times each. I don’t remember either being open yesterday.
Fresh snow was still to be found just to the sides of the piste, but the thin, unmaintained snowpack left a little to be desired. Beware of sharks.
The weather was glorious in the sun, but the cold began to bite as the day progressed and the shadows grew longer. Aware that decent snow is on the horizon toward the end of this week, we decided to call it a short day.
After a quick buffet lunch and espresso, we went to the spa area, where we sat in the outdoor hot tub beneath the shadow of the mountain, followed by a 20-minute sauna and a lazy lounge on the poolside bed reading.
Tonight is our ‘posh’ dinner at the Le Solstice gourmet restaurant. This is included in our all-inclusive package, but a booking is required as it’s a table service experience.
The forecast calls for more snow on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, potentially over a foot. I’m looking forward to that before sadly leaving this fantastic resort.
