The European Alps have been experiencing one of the best starts to the season in a long time. If you find yourself with free time and are hunting for some stashes right now, these are the seven resorts with the biggest snowfalls so far this season*. We do have a three-way tie for fourth place, so resorts with the fourth, fifth, and sixth place are reported as equal fourth.

#7 Zugspitze, Germany

The Zugspitze is Germanyโ€™s tallest mountain. The ski area offers 40 km (25 miles) of groomed runs and is home to the famous Kandahar FIS World Cup run. Season start at the Zugspitze has been fantastic this season.

Equal #4 St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria

What is probably the apres capital of Austria, St. Anton offers not only amazing nightlife but also amazing skiing & board. The ski area offers more than 300km (188 miles) of skiing.

Equal #4 Sรถlden, Austria

Sรถlden is probably one of Austriaโ€™s most famous ski resorts. It has two glacier ski area, the Rettenbach glacier and the Tiefenbach glacier with wide runs and spectacular views. The ski area is typically open year-round and early season conditions tend to be great thanks to its high altitude. Sรถlden is also known for its fantastic aprรจs skiing.

Tignesโ€™ Grand-Motte glacier, which reaches an elevation of 3,653 meters (11,985 feett) has seen 2.7 meters (106 inches) of snow so far this season. Tignes is connected with Val dโ€™Isรจre, and the combined area offers 300km (188 miles) of groomed runs.

#3 Saas-Fee, Switzerland

Saas-Fee is a stunningly beautiful Swiss car free village close to the Italian border. Saas-Fee is opening today, December 16, 2023, for the 23/24 season.

#2 Kaunertal Glacier, Austria

Kaunertal in the Austrian state of Tyrol has seen almost 3m of snow at peak. The resort is running a special deal until Christmas where liftpasses are 30% off. The ski area offers 61km (38 miles) of groomed runs.

#1 Lauchernalp/Lรถtschental, Switzerland

Lauchernalp/Lรถtschental in the Swiss canton Valais is leading the list with more than 3m (131 inches) of snow so far this season. It is a small resort near the Aletsch Glacier and there is no road access to the village in winter, it is only reachable by tram way.
