U.S. ski racer Erik Arvidsson shared on his social media account that he has torn both his ACL and LCL in training at Copper Mountain, Colorado. The 27-year old was training at Copper with the U.S. team for the FIS Downhill and Super-G events at Beaver Creek this coming weekend, December 1-3, 2023, when he crashed on a training run. The San Francisco native shared the video of the crash on his Instagram account.
ACL is short for the Anterior Cruciate Ligament, which connects the upper leg bone or femur with the shin bone. It is located in the middle of the knee and is the central stabilizing ligament of the knee. LCL is short for Lateral Collateral Ligament and is located on the outside of the knee , connecting the femur to the calf bone. The LCL contributes to lateral knee stability. A full recovery for this type of injury is typically around nine months.
Iโm gonna f@&$ing miss these dudes this year. Heartbroken to have torn my ACL and LCL on the last training day before the start of the World Cup season.
Thanks so much to all the @usskiteam doctors, physios, coaches, athletes, and support staff who have helped me start to get things organized for the long road back. As @akildetold me yesterday I am not the first and I wonโt be the last. Iโll be back soon.
An outpouring of well wishes came from national teammates and international alpine racers, including Mikaela Shiffrin, Travis Gangong, AJ Ginnis, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, and Simon Jocher.
