The American ski association, U.S. Ski & Snowboard, and Killington Resort, Vermont, have provided an official update on the injuries sustained by Mikaela Shiffrin at the Giant Slalom race on Saturday, November 30. According to the report, Shiffrin has not sustained any fractures to bones or ligaments. She also did not suffer any damage to internal organs, however, has punctured her abdomen on the right side and sustained muscle trauma during the crash. Shiffrin had caught an edge on Run 2 of the Giant Slalom World Cup race at Killington, which sent her in a forward roll into the safety nets. The American ski racer remained on the sidelines for approximately 10-15 minutes, causing much concern about the extent of her injuries. Shiffrin was then transported down by ski patrol in a sled but gave a wave and a thumbs up to her fans from the sled as she approached the finish area.

Apparently, Shiffrin had asked for the sled because she “was in shock, entirely unable to move, and worried about internal organ trauma.” She was evaluated at Rutland Regional Medical Center, which found no serious injuries, but, according to the official statement, Shiffrin is “pretty sore.”

At this point, “her return to snow is TBD and more information will be forthcoming.” Shiffrin cannot walk very well at the moment, which resulted in her not watching the Slalom World Cup race from the sidelines on Sunday. She was forced to cheer on her teammates from her accommodation in Killington.
