Velka Raca is a small resort on border between Slovakia and Poland. With only little bit over 14km of slopes and 3 chairlifts that connect 3 valleys, you will not find here big vertical drops or chutes, but instead a friendly and familiar atmosphere with beautiful landscapes.ย Last weekend (3-4/Dec) was the opening weekend and boy it was the most snow this resort got in years (not considering season has only began).
Looking at the weather forecast and amount of snow Velka Raca got, it was probably the best option where to go skiing, so me and boys from TFT crew headed direction polish boarder. And it was on fire, we were screaming and enjoying the snow like little kids.
On Saturday it was still snowing so it was cloudy and foggy, but the snow was light and deep. At some places, you got stucked in it up till your hips. Cutting inย between slopes, or going to woods, was where you found most of the white magic stuff. Best fun of the day was in the middle valley along Marguska slope, as you can see on the picture below.
Surprisingly there were very few people up there so you didn’t have to worry about finding fresh unridden snow.ย So we had pretty much the whole mountain for ourselves. Most of the people that came, came just for hiking or ski touring, which got me motivated to do it on Sunday plus sun was on the forecast. (That’s why it’s called Sunday, right?)
After great Saturday came even ”greater” Sunday. Waking up with sun and finally being able to see the beauty of all the snow that fell was indescribable. Now just showel all the snow away, have a quick coffe and let’s head up to Poland. Not sure who was more excited, me or my dog. Well let the pictures talk.
If you happen to be near north-west part of Slovakia or south-west part of Poland make sure you pay this place a visit. You will experience home-like skiing atmosphere and beauty of this part of Europe. And not to forget Velka Raca also offers the largest night skiing area in the whole Slovakia in case you didn’t have enough during a day. ย
