An avalanche ripped down a mountain side in Summit County on Wednesday afternoon and destroyed a cabin. Luckily, no one was inside the cabin when it was struck by the avalanche. Two cross-country skiers came across the debris and notified Summit County Police. Search & Rescue officials used beacons and avalanche dogs to scavenge the area to make sure no one was buried under all of the snow. The cabin is located just south of I-70 and just east of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area. The slide also took out trees and left debris in a near-by Nordic Ski Trail. The area recently received large amounts of snowfall, which is attributed to the cause of the avalanche.
