Denver-based meteorologist Chris Tomer is one of the most accurate forecasters we know. Check out and subscribe to his mountain weather forecast videos to see where North America will get the most snow.

“First storm system moving through PWN/BC early 10/28 then it dives south into WY/ID/MT/UT/CO PM 10/28-10/30. Two bullseyes in CO including the West Elks around Snowmass/Capitol/Maroon Bells/Crested Butte & San Juan Mountains. There are two additional storm systems through 11/6. 2nd storm looks weaker and faster favoring the Northern Tier. 3rd storm could be a merger of two pieces of energy 11/4-11/6.
Snow Timeline:
Wasatch: PM 10/28-10/29, 11/3, 11/5
Tetons: 10/29 (Light), Late 10/31, 11/5
Colorado: PM 10/28-10/30, 11/5-11/6.”

The forecast highlights an active pattern for ski areas across the Pacific Northwest and the Inner Mountain West. Below are the key points I took from the video, but be sure to check it out in full for more details.

Snow Accumulation Forecast

  • Colorado’s West Elks and areas around Aspen could see up to a foot or more of snow from the initial storm.
  • Other regions like Utah may receive 8 to 10 inches, with higher elevations possibly exceeding a foot.
  • The second storm system is expected to bring additional snow, particularly if it merges with a cold front from the north.

Future Outlook

  • Depending on how the systems interact, there is potential for another significant snow event around November 5-6.
  • Overall, the first week of November looks promising for snowfall across many ski areas.
