Major Storm System Hits Utah and Colorado
A significant storm system has arrived in Utah and Colorado, bringing heavy snowfall to many ski areas. The storm will continue throughout Tuesday and into Wednesday morning for Colorado. Crested Butte, Aspen, and the West Elk range are identified as “bull’s eyes” for this system, with Aspen Highlands already receiving a foot of snow and potentially doubling that amount.
Snowfall Predictions
Utah’s Wasatch Range is forecasted to receive an additional 8 to 15 inches of snow. Alta and Snowbird could see up to 15 more inches, while Park City and Deer Valley will receive slightly less.
Colorado ski areas are expected to receive heavy additional accumulations of one to two feet of snow. This includes areas from the West Elks to Summit County, the Continental Divide, and the San Juans.
Other Regions
Wyoming’s Tetons could see 3 to 6 inches of snow, while Montana, Idaho, Pacific Northwest, and Western BC may receive 1 to 3 inches. The Northeast also expects a storm system on November 28-29, though it appears weaker than initially predicted, with 6 to 12 inches of accumulation possible.
Weather Pattern Shift
After this storm system, a high-pressure ridge is expected to move in, bringing calmer weather to much of the Western United States. This shift will likely result in a quieter period for ski areas in the region, with most additional snow falling in the higher latitudes of British Columbia.
Temperature and Wind Conditions
At Alta, temperatures will drop significantly over the next few days. Wednesday morning will start around 13ยฐF, reaching a high of 19ยฐF. By Thursday morning, temperatures could approach single digits at 9,000 feet elevation. Winds are initially gusting up to 30-35 mph.
