The Sierra Nevada is experiencing heavy snowfall and high winds, with significant accumulation expected to continue through the first half of the day. This storm system will taper off but will be followed by additional storms, promising more snow in the region. Kirkwood has already reported about 2 feet of snow in the last 24 hours, making today a big day for skiing if conditions allow.

Storm Systems Across the West

A large storm system is moving across the West, impacting areas from Tahoe to Mammoth, Northern Nevada, Idaho, and the high Cascades. The storm will transition into the Inner Mountain West, affecting the Wasatch, Tetons, and eventually Colorado. The Pacific Northwest and interior BC are also expected to receive significant snowfall.

Forecast Highlights

For the Wasatch, Alta, Utah, expects significant snowfall, with potential accumulations of 28-32 inches from the first storm system. The Tetons will see heavy snow today and tomorrow, with another storm system arriving on the 15th. The Western Slope is expected to receive substantial snowfall in Colorado, while the Northeast remains less promising due to potential rain. The Sierra Nevada is looking at over 2 feet of additional accumulation through the 17th.
