Utah Snow Update

Utah’s Wasatch Front experienced a major snowstorm over the past 24 hours, with Alta accumulating 31 inches of snow. Solitude and other areas also received heavy snowfall, but the skies have now cleared. Avalanche activity briefly closed roads in Little Cottonwood Canyon, and lake-effect snow played a significant role in the storm.

Colorado Snowfall

Colorado saw lighter snowfall than Utah, with Winter Park receiving nine inches in the last 24 hours. Skies are expected to clear as the storm system moves out. Additional snow, with moderate to heavy accumulations, is forecast for March 22 in Colorado.

Pacific Northwest and BC Forecast

Incoming storms are set to bring significant snowfall to the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia. However, warmer air will increase freezing levels, reducing snow accumulation at lower elevations. Resorts like Revelstoke and Kicking Horse may see rain-snow mixes below 4,500 feet.

Upcoming Weather Patterns

A high-pressure ridge will bring warmer temperatures across much of the West starting March 23. Snowfall will taper off in Utah and Colorado while moisture shifts toward the Pacific Northwest. The Northeast will see moderate snow accumulations through March 24.

Skiers’ Highlights

Alta is calm today but expects new snowfall from March 21 to March 22. Up to 12 inches of snow is forecast in the Tetons, while Northern New Mexico will see minimal accumulation. Pacific Northwest areas could receive up to three feet of snow at higher elevations.

Northeast Snow Outlook

Up to a foot of snow is expected in the Northeast, including areas like Mount Washington and Sugarloaf. This will provide excellent conditions for skiing through March 24.

Final Thoughts

The West is transitioning to warmer weather, but one last round of snowfall is expected before high pressure dominates. Skiers should enjoy fresh powder in Utah and Colorado before conditions shift later this week.
