The Adirondack Mountains in New York are one of the coldest places in the Lower 48. Whiteface Mountain has the nickname โ€œIcefaceโ€ for its brutally cold winters and sometimes icy conditions. Skiing on ice is something all East Coast skiers have to deal with and are accustomed to. The mountain is also known for its high wind speeds, high elevation, and northern exposure, often making it extremely cold.

Whiteface Mountain saw its first signs of winter, with flurries falling from the sky at the summit of the mountain this week. Whiteface Mountainย is nestled in the northern Adirondack Mountainsย in Wilmington. It hosted the 1980 Winter Olympic Games for alpine skiing and has the largest vertical drop in the eastern United States. Whiteface Mountain is surrounded by history, with Lake Placid only minutes away and all the Olympic venues. On its Instagram page, Whiteface posted a video of flurries falling from the summit. The ski resort typically opens for the season in late November and closes mid-April.
