Wildcat Mountain, New Hampshire, will be auctioning off old summer gondola cabins this weekend. The auction will last from approximately September 21 at 12 p.m. Central Time until September 22 at 12 p.m.
The summer gondola cabins were originally from Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia, where they operated until 1991. After this, they were dismantled and eventually sent to Wildcat. Wildcat used these gondola cabins for scenic lift rides during the summer until 2019. Every summer, the chairs were taken off the lift line of the Wildcat Express Quad and replaced with these four-person gondola cabins, which transported visitors up the mountain. The cabins stayed on the line until the beginning of the winter season when the quad chairs were put back on.
Once Vail bought Wildcat in 2019, the gondola cabins were deemed unnecessary, as visitors could simply use the quad chairs as a means of transportation up the mountain. The cabins then sat unused in storage until this year.
The 15 gondola cabins up for auction are just under 70 inches (178 cm) tall and long, 46 inches (117 cm) wide, and weigh about 900 pounds (408 kg). Buyers will have to pick up the gondola cabins at Wildcat on September 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET. Wildcat will NOT ship or hold the gondola cabins, so potential buyers should keep this in mind before bidding.
If owning one of these gondola cabins sounds intriguing, visit the online auction site, sign up, and start bidding!
