Will the Ski Season at Killington, VT, Make It to June Again This Year?

Gregg Frantz | | Post Tag for Industry NewsIndustry News

It is that time of year when spring skiing is in full swing at resorts across the United States. In the East, Killington, Vermont, is traditionally the first ski resort to open and one of the last to close each season. Last season, Killington was still open at the beginning of June.

Killington is currently operating with 14 trails with a base depth of 17 inches. The K-1 Lodge and the Roaring Brook Umbrella Bar are open as well. The Patio bar will be open on April 27-28, and the Pub reopens on April 27.

In an Instagram post, Killingtonย confirmed that normal operating hours will be in effect until May 5, when the resort will switch to spring operating hours. While Killington does not provide an end-of-season date, operating on normal hours into May sends the message that conditions are great and operations will continue throughout May. In the last 37 years, Killington has managed to extend its season into June a total of 12 times, so fingers crossed this year will make it number 13.

As of April 25, 2024, atย 3:57ย p.m.,ย Killington’sย conditions and weather report stated:ย

โ€œWeโ€™ve got another sunny day in store for tomorrow with temps forecasted to be in the forties which should make for awesome spring snow conditions. Temperatures are going to drop slightly below freezing tonight which may lead to crusty snow first thing in the morning, but things should be nice and soft a couple hours after lifts start turning.

The cats will lay some cord on Superstar, Skyelark, and more overnight.ย Asย alwaysย get here early if youย are lookingย to make turns on pristine corduroy.ย Make sure toย check out ourย lift and trails reportย to seeย exactly what our open and groomed trails are for the day.
The K-1 Express Gondola will open for a bonus weekend this Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28ย fromย 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.!ย (Superstar will stay open untilย 5:00 p.m.ย on Sat., 4/27). Get those last runs of the season in from 4241โ€™ย before itโ€™s time to start biking off the top.
Beย aware, our open terrain is suitable for advanced and intermediate skiers and riders only.โ€

Killington’s goal each season is to be the last resort standing, and it has consistently been the last ski resort to close each year in the East. Each spring, Superstar is the last slope that remains open at Killington. It is a single-diamond slope known for being steep and gets bumped every year around this time when the conditions are soft. Most of the ski resorts in the East are closed or willย closeย shortly, making Killington the place to hit the slopes this spring.
