Winter 2019-2020 is officially in the books as the 2nd warmest winter for Reno writes Chief Meteorologist Cassie Wilson on Facebook. In fact, a study published by Climate Central shows that winter in the US has warmed by an average of nearly 3ยฐF in the last 50 yrs.
Although warmer winters may sound nice to some (especially those living in colder states), they come with consequences. A 2017 study projected that warming could cause winter recreation to shrink by up to 50% by 2050, resulting in tens of millions of forgone visits each year.
Reno is witnessing impacts from the warm winter already. We’ve kicked off an early allergy seasonย and Mormon crickets are hatching earlier than ever.
