Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Lake Tahoe | 6-12″ of Snow, 110mph Winds, 5-Foot Waves

NOAA just issued a Winter Weather Advisory this for the the Sierra Nevada mountains of California that is calling for 6-12″ of snow, 110mph winds, and 3-5 waves on Lake Tahoe.ย  The advisory will be in effect from 7am until 10pm on Thursday.

NOAA is calling for 5-12″ of snow in the Lake Tahoe basin on Thursday with snow levels around 5,000-6,000 feet.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS: 2 TO 5 INCHES AT TRUCKEE AND LAKE TAHOE
  ELEVATIONS. 6 TO 12 INCHES ALONG THE SIERRA CREST INCLUDING
  AROUND DONNER AND ECHO PASSES. SNOW LEVELS RANGING FROM 5000 TO

NOAA is calling for winds up to 110mph with Thursday’s storm.

ALPINE COUNTY

* TIMING: STRONG GUSTY SOUTHERLY WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO
  THE REGION EARLY THURSDAY MORNING. PEAK WINDS FROM DAYBREAK
  THURSDAY TO MID AFTERNOON. SNOW IS LIKELY TO BEGIN AROUND NOON
  OR EARLY AFTERNOON THURSDAY, LASTING THROUGH THE EVENING.

* WIND: SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50

  UP TO 3-5 FEET ARE EXPECTED. SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE LIKELY
  THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING ON ROADS SUCH AS I-80 AND HIGHWAY
  50, ESPECIALLY OVER PASSES INCLUDING DONNER AND ECHO. EXPECT
  DELAYS AND CHAIN CONTROLS.
