Cerro Castor ski resort lives in Ushuaia, Argentina – the end of the world – Tierra del Fuego.
They snow just won’t come this year and they’ve been forced to push back their opening date twice. Their original opening date was June 18th and they pushed it back to Jun 24th, and now they’re pushing it back to July 1st.
It’s starting to appear likely that 5 other ski resorts in the southern Andes of South America may have to push back their opening dates for the 2nd time as well.
We’ve got our fingers crossed for a big storm to bury Castor in the coming weeks but right now the forecast ain’t pretty. Nothing but warm temperatures and no snow forecast the next 10 days.

Cerro Castor’s Opening Day Push Back Statement:
El invierno y especialmente la nieve están demorándose este 2016. Dadas las altas temperaturas de los últimos días y que no se han registrado precipitaciones en forma de nieve, no llegamos al nivel de nieve para poder abrir. Es por ello que hemos decidido retrasar la apertura una semana más. La nueva fecha estimada de apertura es el 1º de julio.
Seguimos esperando que se cumplan los pronósticos favorables de frío de la semana entrante con posibilidad de nevadas. Este frente frío dejará temperaturas más invernales lo cual nos posibilitará retomar con la fabricación de nieve.
Les recordamos que a partir de mañana viernes 17, Morada del Águila, el restaurante ubicado en la base del cerro, estará abierto durante el mediodía para poder disfrutar del mejor cordero fueguino.
Esperamos que venga la nieve pronto para poder disfrutar de una temporada más en Cerro Castor.

This statement basically says that due to recent high temperatures and no snow, they don’t have enough snow to open and they’ve pushed back their opening date to July 1st, 2016.
