Folsom Dam operators opened 3 floodgates on Monday allowing enormous amounts of water to cascade down the dam face for the first time in nearly 4 years. ย The last opening was in May 2012.
Enough water wasย coming out of the floodgates on Monday to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool every 11 seconds.
Lake Oroville rose 20-feet from last Thursday until March 7th (only 5-days).
Lake Shasta rose 9-feet from last Thursday until March 7th.
It appears that El Nino is making its effect felt in California’s northern reservoirs.
California’s snowpack is at only 83% of average to date right now, however…
Just means the snow is melting early. When the reservoirs fill up early, the snow is melting too early. Not a good thing really.
