Last week, Las Leñas, Argentina got a huge storm. Official reports were of 60 inches of new snow in 30 hours at the top of the mountains. Locals were claiming 8 feet of new snow at the top. The legendary Marte chair opened for one glorious day after the storm (see video: Las Leñas, August 9th, 2013).
Just yesterday, Las Leñas got 28 more inches. Here is an eyewitness report from Matthias Weishcelbaumer, who has spent the entire season in Las Leñas this year:
Las Leñas is going off right now!!! Another 70cm up high refreshed everything, it might be even better than after the last storm. Marte was closed today dued to high winds and avalanche control. Thanks a ton to the Las Leñas pisteros here, those guys worked their ass off the last few days and did an awsome job. So today was another day of lapping Cenidor and the Volcano area what got people super stoked for tomorrow. We all hope for Marte chair opening tomorrow, we prepare for another best day of our lifes!!! – Matthias
According to the forecast, it looks like tomorrow is the day for Marte. Then it should stay open all week. Temps look to rise very high. This will likely cook most aspect, but corn skiing in Las Leñas is exceptional, so it’s no big deal.
