Las Leñas, Argentina has been hot and dry since about August 15th. A big storm was forecasted this weekend that fizzled into nothing. There were a few flakes y ya.

Our good buddy, Matthias, is living in Las Leñas this season and here’s what he had to say today:

“It got really warm in Las Leñas, temperatures went up to more than 10º C [the past 10 days ]. The snow turned bad in any aspect but it looked like a storm would come in right in time… but it didn’t. Just disapeared. And it looks like the next week it’s getting even warmer, freezing level goes over 4000 meter, even at night. There is still a lot of hiking to do, the terrain is huge, but some snow would definately help to keep the stoke level high…” – Matthias Weischelbaumer, August 24th, 2013

Las Leñas has had a rough year overall but there were a couple bright spots like the 60 inch storm on August 9th:

The forecast for this week is for temperatures in the 50Fs (10C) day and night. This won’t be great for the snow because corn needs freezing temps at night to form. If it stays hot, the snow becomes isothermic slop. Hopefully it gets colder. Las Leñas has the same latitude as Los Angeles, California.
