Las Leñas ski resort in Argentina is closed for the 2013 season. Las Leñas ususally stays open until the middle of October if not longer. This season was cut 4 weeks short when Las Leñas was forced to close early on September 14th, 2013 due to a major lack of snow.
Warm temperatures and very few snowstorms plagued Las Leñas all season resulting in the ski resort nearly closing on August 9th. A 60-inch storm rolled in on August 7th and saved Las Leñas fro a very early closure. A 28-inch storm on August 13th kept things rolling. By August 16th, it was hot and dry again.
This is the first major ski resort in the South America to close.

Interesting as I thought Argentina & Chile were getting pounded with snow. I guess I only caught wind of the big dumps and not the in between hot temps. Too bad for all of those who had to cancel their trips.
First time I’ve ever been kicked out of a ski resort…hanging out in Mendoza now twiddling my thumbs waiting for my flight out on Thursday.. :/ if anyone has some ideas on what to do here for a few days let me know.
Gary, the bicycle winery tour in Maipo (Maipu?) is damn fun. You meet fun people there and the wine is world class.
Wonder where everyone bailed to?
