video from today with update on exactly whatโs going on at Baker right now
Mt. Baker ski area, WA has been closed Monday, Tuesday, and Today due to highway 542 being closed.
The real bummer is that the conditions have been epic all week at Baker with 28โณ of snow at 16ยบFโฆ
Theyโre hoping to get the highway and resort back open by Friday.
TODAYโS UPDATE from MT. BAKER:
โIf this isnโt the definition of bittersweet, I donโt know what is: itโs currently stunning on the mountain but it pains us to tell you that we will be closed again tomorrow (Wednesday) due to the continued highway closure. At this point we are hearing that the WSDOT equipment and crew will be able to return tomorrow (Wednesday) along with 3 excavator crews to work on the trees and highway up toward the ski area. We expect the temperatures to warm up at lower elevations tomorrow afternoon, which should help melt the snow off those trees. If all progresses as hoped we could see the highway re-open on Thursday morning, which could allow us to re-open the Ski Area on Thursday Feb. 9th. Check our snow report for more detailed info on the situation: http://www.mtbaker.us/snow-reportโ โ Mt. Baker, today
TUESDAYโS UPDATE from MT. BAKER:
โTuesday operations update: Arrrghh. Mt. Baker will be closed on Tuesday, February 7th due to the highway being closed for another day โฆ. we anticipate being open for Wednesday and plan on having an update by 3:00 Tuesday afternoon. (We love trees, but dang we wish theyโd stay upright)โ โ Mt. Baker, Tuesday
MONDAYโS UPDATE from MT. BAKER:
โMONDAY AFTERNOON ROAD UPDATE: The Washington State Department of Transportation is currently working on tree mitigation on the highway and is expecting to re-open the highway tomorrow. They will begin assessing the highway at 6:00 Tuesday morning to make a determination on a possible opening time, and we will relay that information on the snow report as soon as we get official word from them. At this point we are setting a possible ski area opening time of 10:00 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 7th, but that is dependent on what the WSDOT determines, so stay tuned for continued updates!
Conditions on the mountain should be absolutely awesome tomorrow; weโve had over 10 inches of fresh snow since closing Sunday at under 24 degrees and forecasts are calling for more snowfall tonight at continued cold temperatures! Get ready for a blower powder day!!!โ โ Mt. Baker, Monday
