Kirkwood ski resort faired the best from this storm. Their base elevation of 7,800-feet had a lot to do with that. Kirkwood got 8” of new snow out of this storm at the base and 18” of new snow up top. Kirkwood has ruled out opening on Friday (they were talking about it yesterday), but hopes to open as soon as they can after Friday. Snowmaking equipment at Kirkwood is cranking out snow as we write this.
Squaw didn’t get enough snow at the bottom to change too much. Squaw traditionally opens with the mountain run/Red Dog open and those areas are bone dry at the bottom. Squaw is reporting 10 inches of new snow up top and only 1 inch of new snow at the base.
Alpine Meadows has a higher base than Squaw and things are looking a touch better down low over there, but still not quite enough. Alpine got 3” at the base and 6” up top.
Sugar Bowl is looking pretty white, top to bottom. They’ve reported 6” of new snow at the bottom and 10” at the top.
TAHOE STORM SNOW TOTALS TODAY:
Kirkwood = 8-18”
Feels good to see a white Sugar Bowl
