Beartooth Highway will close for the winter on Tuesday, October 15, at 8 a.m..

On Tuesday, October 15 at 8 a.m., the Beartooth Highway (US-212) south of Red Lodge, MT, will close for the winter.

“Beartooth Highway (US212) from Red Lodge to Cooke City, Montana will be close at 8 a.m. Oct. 15.

The last day to enjoy driving the Beartooth Highway (US-212), located east of the parkโ€™s Northeast Entrance between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cooke City, Montana, is Monday, Oct. 14. The highway will be closed for the season Oct. 15.”

The 68-mile road, which peaks at 10,947 feet, typically closes from early fall through April or May due to deep snow.ย Currently, the roads are clear, although snow is in the forecast later this week.

The high-elevation Beartooth Highway, US 212, connecting Yellowstone National Park with Red Lodge, Montana, opened for the season on June 5.

The Beartooth Highway is an All-American Road on a section of U.S. Route 212 in Montana and Wyoming between Red Lodge and the Northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park, passing over the Beartooth Pass in Wyoming at 10,947 feet (3,337ย m) above sea level. It has been called โ€œthe most beautiful drive in Americaโ€ by late CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt. Because of heavy snowfall at the top, the pass is usually open yearly from mid-May through mid-October, weather permitting.
