2 Avalanche Deaths Today: 18-Year-Old Male Snowmobiler in Utah, Female Ice Climber in Colorado

The Utah Avalanche Center is reporting that and 18-year-old male snowmobiler was killed in an avalanche above Farmington Canyon, UT today.

The Colorado Avalanche Center is reporting that a female climber was killed in an avalanche in Uncompahgre Gorge south of Ouray, Colorado today.

There was also a fatal inbounds avalanche at Alpine Meadows ski resort, CA yesterday.

Utah Avalanche Details:

(1-18-2020) We are very sad to report an avalanche fatality that happened today above Farmington Canyon. A 18 year old, male snowmobiler was caught, fully buried and killed. Preliminary info available on our website under “Observations & Avalanches”. We will re-visit the scene tomorrow and have a full report available in the coming days. Colorado Avalanche Details:

“An ice climber was killed in the Uncompahgre Gorge south of Ouray Colorado on January 18, 2020 when a falling block of ice triggered a small avalanche. The victim was hit by the snow and ice. She was caught and carried in the avalanche. She came to rest in the creek where she was fully buried. The victim was not climbing at the time of the accident. She was untethered. Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and everyone affected by this accident.” – CAIC, 1/18/20
