Two runners shattered a long-standing record at the Rendezvous Mountain Hill climb at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, WY, this year, finishing the grueling course in under an hour for the first time in the race’s 11-year history.

The challenging trail race, which boasts a rise of 4,139 feet across a mere 6.2 miles, has long defied the efforts of elite runners to break the hour mark. This year, however, saw professional athletes Joseph Gray, from Colorado Springs, CO, and Tyler McCandless, from Fort Collins, CO, achieve this feat. Gray finished the race in an astounding 57 minutes and 56 seconds, with McCandless clocking in at 59 minutes and 7 seconds.

In the women’s category, Jennifer Lichter clinched the top spot with an impressive time of one hour, eight minutes, and 50 seconds.

The Rendezvous Mountain Hill climb, renowned as one of the most challenging hill climb running events in the western U.S., has always been a litmus test for the prowess and determination of trail runners.
