Arapahoe Basin ski area, CO’s chief operating officer, Alan Henceroth, just announced that Arapahoe Basin will not be opening any time soon.
“A re-opening will not be happening soon. As a community, we have more work to do battling COVID-19. Hospitalization and fatality rates need to continue to fall. We still need to follow all the social distancing recommendations. Culturally, to open we have to be comfortable traveling and driving again.”

Alan also stated that they have no plans to open uphill access.

Alan went on to state that they are working on plans on how to open and that they will try to re-open when conditions are right and that that time is at least a few weeks off.
“That said, you know when conditions are right, we will try and re-open. That time is at least a few weeks away.”

Arapahoe Basin has also closed its parking areas after hordes of people showed up and did not practice social distancing on the weekend of March 21st-22nd (see video below).
Arapahoe Basin often stays open daily until June then sometimes continues to open on weekends until the 4th of July.
Arapahoe Basin’s average closure date is mid-June.
Arapahoe Basin is currently sitting on a 65″ snowpack, according to their website, and they’ve seen a lot of snow since closing on March 14th, 2020.
Arapahoe Basin averages 350″ of snowfall per season, according to their website.
The Ski Area Closure Executive Order that was issued by Governor Polis on March 14th has been extended until April 30th so there is no possibility of opening any Colorado ski resort before April 30th (see full executive order & extention below).
The Ski Area Closure Executive Order could possibly be extended again.
