On Friday, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, CO, announced that it will open for the 2023/24 winter season on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Arapahoe Basin opened for the winter season and targets being the last to close, offering guests the longest season in Colorado.
โThere is nothing I enjoy more than seeing people have fun skiing and riding on the hill. Our team is incredibly excited to get Arapahoe Basin open and starting the fun.โ
– Alan Henceroth, ย Arapahoe Basin COO
On opening day, skiers and riders were able to enjoy skiing and riding on High Noon, accessed via the Black Mountain Express. Opening day also featured duct tape and donuts for the first guests in line, a Halloween band from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and a costume contest with unbeatable A-Basin swag prizes.ย The resort has plans to continue snow-making and opening more terrain as quickly as possible, starting next with Lenawee Face and Dercum Gulch. Please note learning terrain will open in a few weeks, and terrain is currently expert only.
Starting Sunday, lifts will spin from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekends (starting at 9:00 a.m. on weekdays) and be open and operating seven days a week for the remainder of the season.ย
New This Season – Successes in Sustainability
As of this October, Arapahoe Basin is now operating with 100% renewable electricity and mitigating over 2/3rds of the resortโs carbon emissions. This major achievement was made possible by partnerships with Xcel Energy and many community partners, including Jackโs Solar Farm located in Longmont, Colorado. In 2018, Arapahoe Basin pledged to be carbon neutral by 2025. The success of reaching 100% renewable electricity exemplifies the resortโs sustainability efforts being broad, company-wide, and intentionally built into the culture and business. By conserving and limiting resource use, protecting spectacular natural surroundings, and working hard to educate guests and staff alike, A-Basin is finding ways to walk lighter on the planet โ even in ski and snowboard boots.
Coming Up in 2023/24
A-Basin is kicking off another Legendary Season. The ski area is offering over 1,400 skiable acres, including some of the most challenging in-bounds terrain in Colorado on the East Wall and Steep Gullies, wide-open Zuma Bowl turns, and one of the most affordable beginner experiences around.
Events
The A-Basin community is bar none, living out traditions like the 6th Alley Mug Club and The Enduro and creating new ones like our Pride Weekend, which kicked off in 2022. This early season, celebrate snow, the joy of skiing and riding, and each other at signature events.
- October 29th: Concert and Costume Contest
- November 18th-19th: Passholder Appreciation Weekend
Expanding the Community
A-Basin has partnered with the Colorado Blackpackers, SOS Outreach, Denver Public Library, and local public schools to lower barriers to entry for skiing, riding, and outdoor summer adventures.
Preserving the Experience
At A-Basin, ticket sales will be limited every day of the season to mitigate crowds, preserve the experience, put less stress on the terrain, reduce parking hassles, and shorten lift lines. The resort wants to keep A-Basin a beautiful, laid-back ski area with room on the slopes and a seat at the bar.
