Finally after weeks/months of waiting and praying for snow the powder has come! Since Saturday evening we’ve had a mix of sun and snow resulting in a good 60cm of fresh powder. The snow came with quite a bit of wind but at cold enough temperatures that it’s the fluffy, sprayy good stuff.
At Stuben am Arlberg the North face is exposed to a lot of wind and has some great sheltered gullies that were super loaded with deep pow. Great top to bottom runs from big open faces to cool windlips and fun pillowy trees. Only on the very few last vertical meters there was still a few bushes, roots and rocks hiding under the still under season average snowpack. But it’s looking up!
The only problem is a week layer buried in the snowpack and a lot of wind loading. So riding out of bounds has to be done with extreme caution.ย But there are some great faceshots to be had.
The forecast looks insane: Snow snow and more snow. Finally the dry spell is over in the Alps – at least in the western part.
