This made the Arlberg sparkle in the sun all weekend – perfect freeride conditions. Obergurgl, Austria Conditions Report: Spring Powder We went on a 2 day trip to the Ötztal hunting for some spring powder in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl. Last weekend it snowed roughly 20 cm, so Obergurgl with it’s high elevation up to 3100m was the perfect place to go. Generally it’s been a low snow year in the southern Alps this season but above 2600m there are still great dry pow stashes to be found. Rendl, St. Anton, Austria Conditions Report: Ridge Climbing to the Pow The lifts at the Rendl, St.Anton take you up to over 2600m directly to an endless ridge line with plenty of drop in points for steep, big mountain lines. Arlberg, Austria Conditions Report: Splitboarding Bliss at the Rendl Yesterday was absolutely epic. Splitboarding with local shredder/mountain guide Bas Elhorst in his back yard the Rendl. Conditions were perfect, velvety AK like pow in protected and north facing slopes, almost no wind and bluebird skies. We did a series of hikes and lines. Arlberg, Austria Conditions Report Video: Promising Start for March March has been of to great start. Tuesday we got 20-30 cm on a firm base but great blower pow. Wednesday it was a little warm and few flakes, this was great for the snowpack softening up that hard layer. Thursday we woke up to another 20cms of blower pow and no more buried crust. Splitboarding in Kaunertal, Austria: High Alpine Big Mountain Riding in the Alps Generally there is very little snow in the Alps at the moment. There was some early season snow especially in the Arlberg region a couple of weeks ago but most of that has been melted and rained away. So if you want to find some interesting skiing and touring – go up high! the Kaunertal is a glacier ski area opened most of the year. It’s located in south/west Austria right on the Italien boarder. Ski touring to the Weissseespitze you actually skin partly through Italy before reaching the Peak. The Gepatscherferner glacier is humongous and the biggest in the eastern Alps. Stubai Glacier: Huge Booters and Crevasse Exploring The Stubaier Glacier is just a 30 min drive south from Innsbruck. It boasts the best pro Park in the Word at this time of year. It’s south facing and located at around 3000m elevation. The world elite riders and skiers have flocked to Stubaital to hit the huge jumps and rails in Stubai Zoo terrain park. Weather has been perfect this week sun and blue skies with some gusty wind at times. The Stubai Glacier offers a huge amount of terrain and slopes. At the moment 900m vertical runs are possible. Conditions Report Arlberg, Austria: Perfect Powder Day Yesterday it was snowing hard all day with almost no wind. The snow just kept piling up. This morning the result was 40cms of perfect powder.
