Two high altitude glacier ski areas in Austria have opened today following big snowfalls over the past week, with another in Italy set to open tomorrow.
The Stubai and Solden glaciers in the Tirol, Austria will be opening today Friday, 13th September, and Val Senales in Italy due to open tomorrow, Saturday 14th.
Heavy snowfall across the Alps saw most areas above 5,000-feet see fresh snow, with accumulations above 10,000-feet adding up to at least 22″ at resorts in Austria, Italy, and Switzerland.
Four glacier areas were previously open in the Alps, Hintertux in Austria, Passo Stelvio in Italy and Saas-Fee and Zermatt in Switzerland.
The Galdhopiggen glacier in Norway re-opened after 16″ of snowfall, having previously closed early in July due to high temperatures.
Tignes is expected to begin the French 2019-20 season on the 28th of September.
