Azerbaijan Conditions Report: Here in Azerbaijan, at the feet of the Mount Shahdag (4,243 meters), the begin of March offered us some fresh snow, around 40 cm last week for a total of 70 cm on the slopes. The weather is now nice and sunny after a week of fog. It’s not windy. Conditions are good to make backcountry ski, all the area is a very nice playground, wild and unfurnished offering many choices but the avalanche risk is at 3 today. Inside the ski resort, everything goes without a hitch! To know more about Shahdag: […] Conditions Report Guest Author | March 28, 2015 1 Comment

VIDEO: “Fubuki” | A Squaw Boy Finds Bliss in Japan So I went to Japan with all of your friends and your mom and skied overhead powder and ate all the sushi a healthy American can handle and came home wise and fulfilled. Just kidding. I escaped Tahoe at just the right time with three Tahoe homies and saw friends from around the world. We skied a lot of pow, were heavily chastised for skiing in the wrong place, ate at The Robot Restaurant in Shinjuku, chased Serow through the woods, saw the fire festival in Nozawa Onsen […] Guest Author | March 28, 2015 0 Comments
Mt. Shasta Conditions Report: 10+ Inches of Fresh Snow With new snow and cooler than normal temps there really was no choice but to head up the mountain and check on ski and avalanche conditions, cracked ribs or not! Monday was a bit of a surprise to see stars in the morning so we left SMG HQ for a quick hike up the gulch. There are few vistas more inspiring than a newly frosted Mt. Shasta. The first round brought 8-10โณ of new light density snow, perhaps a foot in places with gusty blowing winds above 9,000โฒ Conditions Report Guest Author | March 26, 2015 0 Comments
Making the Pilgrimage to Jackson Hole, WY Why did it take me so long to get here. This pilgrimage is worth doing way sooner than I did it if you think you’re a good skier. Skiing here made me feel like I’ve never even been to a steep resort before. It made me feel humble. I can only imagine what skiing here every day under and on these steep faces would do for your confidence and skill level. The vertical is so great and so steep. You feel like you could fall off the mountain […] Guest Author | March 18, 2015 2 Comments
Mt. Shasta, CA Conditions Report: Itโs currently snowing on the mountain, we love rainy Mondays, and any other days for that matter! Despite the dry winter and unseasonably warm temps, Mt. Shasta has fared quite well this year and weโre grateful to have a fun and enjoyable winter at the top of the state! December and February delivered with significant storm totals to give us a solid base and thus far March has been kind with small systems to refresh and replenish our snowpack. The climbing and skiing have been fabulous! The long periods of high pressure have provided for unusually fun climbing and skiing with spring-like conditions. Although it may not be the winter dreams are made of; ski touring in t-shirts, flip flops in the parking lot, and low to […] Conditions Report Guest Author | March 17, 2015 2 Comments
Pre-Work Powder in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah After the recent storm dropped 2 feet of right side up perfectness in the Cottonwood Canyons, the skies cleared early on Wednesday March 4th. We (The Naton, Mike DeBernardo) were able to pick off some of the low hanging fruit right above Highway 210. The trio of runs faced south through southeast so the window was short, but early that morning, the conditions were stellar. A classic Wasatch storm cycle and definitely one of the best days of the relatively thin season. It was a great day to live in Salt Lake, skiing perfect backcountry pow […] Guest Author | March 8, 2015 1 Comment
Mt. Shasta Evades CA Drought | Snowpack @ Average | Report: March has arrived and we find ourselves in a mild high pressure weather window. Hardly the lion we were hoping for, but we can enjoy the snow coated Mt. Shasta while tracking the jet stream for our next storm system. Historically March can be very wintery and wet in Northern California, there is some hope on the horizon for additional snow next week. And despite the talk of drought, we have been very fortunate on Mt. Shasta to receive significant storms this year to put our snow […] Conditions Report Guest Author | March 5, 2015 3 Comments
