Video Description:
“We camped at Rock Creek Campground which is the main spot where ski bums camp when shredding the Beartooths. It is about 20 miles from Red Lodge, MT and is at the base of the mountains as you start heading up the pass. A “tent arena” was formed and the shed bums from Bozeman had an outdoor palace for the weekend.
We hicthed, hiked, and shredded to and from the the top of the pass, and we saw the snow was pretty rotten at the bottom. The snow at Beartooth Basin was great. The pig races at the bar in Bear Creek are a fun way to unwind after a long day of shredding high in the mountains with the sun beating down, and “side bets with crazy locals” can really spice up the excitement.โ – 2nd hand delivery of Mitchel Caseyโs experience at Beartooth on Memorial Day Weekend 2013
(editorโs note: ย All Photos in this article are from Yesterday, June 5th, 2013.)
There is nothing about Beartooth Basin that doesnโt sound fun. ย Itโs a mountain humanโs mountain. ย Itโs a ski resort where you can get away from everything that distracts you from skiing and riding. ย No lodge, no stage, no bar, no BS, just snow and lifts. ย This is as real as it gets.
The photos included here are from yesterday and conditions looked perfect for summer skiing. ย Sunny skies yesterday with temperatures in the 50s and soft slushy snow.
Beartooth Basinย is a summer only ski resort in Montana/Wyoming that opens Memorial Day Weekend and closes around July 13th. ย Top elevation is around 11,000 feet and the snow just stays up here. ย They gotย so much snow last week, 2-4 feet, that the road closed for the weekend. ย They got it back open on Monday and itโs all systems go.
Special thanks to Mountain Riderโs Alliance CEO Jamie Schectman for these photos from Beartooth Basin and Pass.
