The Bergman Express at Keystone Resort, Colorado, is officially opened today, December 30, 2023, for the 2023-24 season, offering guests the chance to access Keystone’s high alpine via chairlift for the first time ever.

To commemorate the milestone and pay homage to the legacy of Bill and Jane Bergman, members of the Bergman family cut the official ribbon on the new chair at 9 am this morningwhile joined by their grandkids and Keystone Resort leaders. Bergman Express’s first chair was ridden by the immediate descendants of Bill and Jane Bergman, Bill Bergman Jr. and Lolly Dykstra, as well as Mountain Operations leaders Chris Ingham and Kolina Coe. Two seats were reserved in the middle of the chair in recognition of the late Bill and Jane Bergman, for whom the new chairlift, and Bergman Bowl, is named after.

Keystone Resort opened the entirety of Bergman Bowl today with the new chairlift, allowing guests to explore over 250 acres of high alpine skiing and riding – including one of the nation’s highest green trails, TenMile. Once terrain in Erickson Bowl opens, the total acreage accessed by the new chairlift will be 555 acres.

While Bergman and Erickson Bowls have previously been open for hike-to skiing and riding access at the resort, much of Keystone’s hike-to bowl terrain has largely gone under-utilized. For the first time ever now, both Bergman and Erickson Bowls are accessible by lift to a variety of skiers and riders at the resort. Bergman Express allows guests to easily lap the mellow and welcoming terrain in Bergman Bowl, as well as access more advanced terrain in Erickson Bowl that connects back to the Outback Express and Wayback lifts.

In addition to the new lift, the project also includes a new sustainable patrol hut, new snowmaking infrastructure in the lower parts of Bergman Bowl, and a brand-new trail map to reflect the reimagined ski experience in Keystone’s high alpine. Bergman Express is Keystone Resort’s first lift access expansion since the Outback Express debuted in 1991, more than 30 years ago.
