Big Cottonwood Canyon, UT, continues to face temporary closures until at least Thursday, April 13, 2023. The Utah Department for Transportation (โUDOTโ) has been closing State Route 190 during the day since April 8, 2023, for extended periods for avalanche clearance and mitigation.
State Route 190 had to be closed every day this week from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at Cardiff Fork (MP 10.7) due to wet avalanches. Meanwhile, State Route 210 has been closed to all traffic since Monday morning, with no estimate for an opening.
UDOT announced that the current plan would be for State Route 190 to be closed from 11 am to 4 pm on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, and Thursday, April 13, 2023. Please be mindful that circumstances can change, and closures can be extended. Delays can be expected, and you may be in stopped traffic until queues clear. The State Route 190 will be closed from the mouth to Cardiff (MP 10.7). However, travel is permitted above Cardiff.
Please monitor UDOTโs updates on their website or Twitter for updates and current status reports before traveling. Make sure you are prepared for sudden closures or the extension of closures, and plan.
