The NOAA has issued a winter weather advisory for areas of Montana, with snowfall and record low temperatures.ย Big Sky Resort could benefit from up to 6″ fresh snow today.
On Sunday, both Bozeman (8ยบF) and Dillon (10ยบF) set new daily record lows for October 27th, breaking records going back almost a century.
An Arctic cold front will push south through north-central Montana this morning and southwest Montana this afternoon, bringing a shift to northerly winds and a period of snow along with some blowing snow and falling temperatures later today. Snow decreases late this afternoon through tonight as temperatures fall through the teens and single digits with winds chill values tonight as cold as zero to 10 below zero. Unseasonably cold but drier conditions continue on Tuesday and Tuesday night before a slow moderating trend develops later this week.
Heavy snow, up to 1-inch per hour could bring up to 10″ at higher elevations.ย Insane wind chills of -35ยบF could cause frostbite to exposed skin in as little as 10-minutes! Bridger Bowl could also see significantย snowfall today.

Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches at lower elevations, with 5 to 10 inches in the mountains and over mountain passes. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snowfall rates could approach 1 inch per hour for a period of time late Monday morning or early Monday afternoon.
Big Sky Resort has already seen a number of decent storms already this season, with accumulating snow. They received 5″ over the weekend, for a total of 45″ for October already, with more expected over the next 24-hours.
Big Sky Resort is scheduled to open on November 28th, and with the snow already fallen and more in the forecast, opening day might just be one to remember!
It is nice seeing the forecast info here.
But for a site that calls itself “Snow Brains”, I think a little more thought should have gone into the snow-crystal logo. It is unphysical. One doesn’t have 90 degree angles like those in real snow crystals. See
