On Saturday, March 17th, 2018 I flew with Black Ops Valdez Heli in Alaska and had one of the best ski days of my life.
A life changing day.
The day was clear, windless, around 30ยบF, and stunningly beautiful.
We got started early at 9am – only an hour after sunrise.ย The morning light was glowing off the peaks.
We began the day with a mellower run to learn the new snowpack and evaluate our group.ย Both passed with high marks.
From there we went on to complete 12 heli runs in impressive terrain.
As they day went on, we felt stronger, more confident, and our legendary guide, Jerry Hance, led us into steeper and more complex terrain.
The snow this day was very consistent.ย There was about 3-4 feet of new snow from the previous 4 days.ย We were skiing the top 6-12″ of that new snow and it was fast, fun, and slashable.
We ended the day on a high note skiing a a steep 3,000′ face of glory powder and fun drops.
We skied over 40,000-vertical-feet on this powerful day.
Thanks, Black Ops Valdez.
Thanks, Jerry.
