Blackcomb Mountain opened up this last Thursday!ย  After a bit of rain and some new snow up high, it was good to get out on the hill.ย  The mountain was not that crowded as both Whistler and Blackcomb were now open. ย Most areas on the hill are still closed due to low snow. ย However, you were definitely able to get off the main runs if you were feeling a little adventurous, and willing to avoid someย rocks and sticks poking around. ย With some new snow up high it was nice to be able to get some fresh turns and hit a few small drops.

Jersey Wall
Jersey wall was fun to ski with some variable snow

By the weekend most of the main runs were hard pack or fairly icy.ย  It was definitely a good call to bring out some skis with edges, or to go hit the park.ย  The park was well built up with a bunch of rail features and three jumps. ย The park did get pretty crowded during the weekend but it was still fun to get back into it.

Blackcomb Park
Blackcomb park had a bunch of features for this time in the year.

Some people were hiking up from the top of Jersey heading towards Glacier, the Couloir, and DOA.ย  I heard that the snow was pretty good up high and it was worth the walk to get away from the crowds.

Overall, Whistler is having a bit of a rough start to the season with low snow.ย  However, they have put effort into making the park fun, and if you are willing to go for a short walk the snow is good up high.
