Report from March 3, 2025

March is here, which usually means warmer temperatures and longer days. It also means that the ski season is coming to an end for some parts of the country. However, many skiers and riders look forward to this time of the year. The warmer temperatures and sunshine soften the snow conditions and make the mountain feel a whole lot different than in winter. It is the time of the season that some skiers and riders canโ€™t wait for.

Blue Mountain Resort, Pennsylvania, nestled in the picturesque Pocono Mountains, is just 1 and a half hours away from Philadelphia and just under 2 hours away from New York City. It boasts the biggest vertical drop of any ski resort in Pennsylvania and features 40 ski trails, 16 lifts, 29 mountain biking trails, a ropes course, a rock climbing wall, and more. The resort offers camping and glamping sites, dining at Slopeside Pub & Grill, and spaces for indoor and outdoor weddings, groups, and corporate retreats.

This past season, Blue Mountain has completed a multi-million-dollar snowmaking upgrade, adding 132 new stick guns, six fan guns, and revamped automation software. This upgrade increased early season coverage by 17.5%. A new Prinoth Bison X Cat snow groomer has also been added, and popular trails like Come Around and Lower Lazy have been expanded.

The conditions at Blue Mountain were mixed, with some hard-packed groomers and some icy conditions as the sun went down. This is typical March skiing in Pennsylvania, with temperatures above freezing during the day and below freezing at night. The slopes were not crowded, and the lift lines were short on a Monday night, which made for quick runs and the ability to hit some runs with hardly anyone else on them.

Blueโ€™s trails had some nice features, like Nightmare, which has four features, Central Park, which has eight features, Dreamweaver, which has 12 features, Lower Sidewinder, which has seven features, Pioneer Park, which has 12 features, Come Around, which has eight features, and Yeti, which has four features.

Overall, the conditions were great, but warmer temperatures and rain are forecasted for the first part of March. Last season, Blue Mountain opened on December 7, 2023, and closed on March 30, 2024, making its season 114 days long. โ€œBlueโ€ is dedicated to having the longest ski season in Pennsylvania. This season, Blue Mountain opened on December 6, 2024, and hopefully will be open for the remainder of the month.

Blue Mountain was blowing snow on a lot of its trails throughout the day and night on Monday. The resort said it makes snow anytime the temperature is below 35ยฐF. It was the last ski resort to close in Pennsylvania last season, and with its current conditions, it should be one of the last ones to close again this season.

The weather forecast for Blue Mountain Resort for next week shows temperatures ranging from 25 to 58ยฐF, with rain on Wednesday and Thursday. No new snow accumulations are in this weekโ€™s forecast. Blue Mountain had most of its terrain open with a reported base between 36 and 48 inches, and 37 out of its 40 trails were open on Monday.

Please note that Blue Mountain Resort will be closed this Wednesday, March 5, due to inclement weather. This includes the Slopeside Pub & Grill. All activities will reopen on Thursday, March 6.

Blue Mountain and Camelback have also launched the Peak-to-Peak Poconos Pass, which offers unlimited access to both resorts without blackout dates.
