Some sad news coming out of Idaho today. ย The body of a hiker who had been missing since September 24th, 2013 was found in Craters of the Moon National Monument in Idaho yesterday.
The 63-year-old woman who was found yesterday had gone missing with a friend on September 24th. ย Their car was discovered on September 24th with their purses, cell phones, and dogs inside. ย One of the female hikerโs body was found the next day on September 25th.
The government shutdown on October first didnโt help the search.
“When the government shut down at midnight on Oct. 1, just days after the duo went missing Sept. 24, rescue workers could not access federal resources including helicopters, planes and dogs.
Despite being furloughed and unpaid, 10 Park Service rangers volunteered to continue the search during the shutdown, scouring the volcanic terrain by foot.โ – ABC News
Yesterday, park rangers found the missing hikerโs body using a helicopter. ย She was found less than one mile away from where her friendโs body was found a month early.
The cause of death of the first hiker found was determined to be exposure. ย The second hiker found cause of death has not yet been determined.
